About Us...

Our business is providing training and technical support to those who are interested in enhancing their knowledge of the Energy Conservation & Green Building Fields or someone who wishes to maximize their career opportunities.  Many people who attend our classes find the skills gained prove invaluable in various entry level positions throughout the "Green" industry.  We also offer professional development seminars   that cover essential skills necessary to advancing one's career in any field.

Our instructors have a combined experience of over 50 years in the construction, energy conservation, and weatherization fields.  The professional development instructors have a combined experience of 30 years in office management, specializing in non-profit and government program administration.

We provide a wide range of training courses including but not limited to:  residential energy inspections, multi-family energy inspections, BPI Building Analyst I, BPI Mobile Home Analyst Certification, BPI Envelope Specialist & various other building science classes.  Our professional development seminars consist of sessions such as Managing Your Time & Multiple Priorities, TEAMwork & Leadership, Creative Problem Solving, etc.  Need-specific tailored training sessions are available per request.  Please see our Services page or contact us for more information.

Training and building analysis from a "house as a complete system" approach remains our school of thought and we are happy and proud to pass on what we have learned to those seeking to broaden their skills or receive accreditation from a nationally recognized benchmark such as the Building Performance Institute. 

BTK currently has a 98% success rate for all BPI classes and we also offer one on one evening coaching, per request, for our students attending a BPI certification course. Our classroom atmosphere offers a comfortable learning environment with frequent group discussions.   Refreshments will be provided for students attending any of our sessions.  Lunch will be provided for those who are attending a BPI Certifcation Training & Testing Session.   Our instructors are available to provide the training sessions conveniently on-site at your location, or at our facility in Winston Salem, NC.  Please see our accommodations page.

Interested In BPI Certification?

We are Building Performance Institute affiliates.  We offer not only certification exams, but also the training to build the skills needed to satisfy all the required areas of testing.  The Building Performance Institute was founded in 1993, and has become the benchmark for home energy retrofit standards and practices. 

BPI and the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) are in the process of consolidating their certifications and making their relationship seamless.  This will make certification between both BPI and Resnet more versatile, and those certified will enjoy the recoginition of being associated with both organizations and the profitability of both the existing and new construction markets. Anyone.  While no formal experience is necessary to participate in most examinations, we strongly recommend you seek appropriate training (which we offer).

Do I have to take all of the courses?

 No.  Successful completion of one certification exam is sufficient to become BPI certified.  If you want to expand your skill set and business offering, we encourage you to take other BPI certification courses.
